About us

The Bartimaeus Community

Our Philosophy…..

Our life is centred around prayer three times a day, with a celebration of the Eucharist on Sundays. We use a variety of material for this worship.

The Eucharist is Rite 1 from Common Worship the service book of the Church of England.

Morning Prayer is a modified version of the pattern found in Common Worship -- Daily Prayer.

Midday Prayer is centred on social concerns, and the most meditative of the Psalms, psalm 119. The sequence is shown below. During the Church Seasons we follow the pattern in Common Worship -- Daily Prayer.

Night Prayer is based upon the form of Prayer used by the Community of Brothers at Taizé in France. The brothers there have developed a form of prayer over the years that is very meditational in its style, and can be used by all nationalities. Theologically we come from the Liberal/Catholic wing of the Anglican Church. We are affiliated to 'Affirming Catholicism'. For more details about this you can email them at:
